Develop strategy to improve labor productivity in construction projects while augmenting the income of workers.
We assessed labor productivity levels and identified services suitable for an output contract basis rather than the traditional daily labor rate. As a test case, we proposed modifying the compensation of welders to be based on a per diameter inch of pipe welded rate. The approach resulted in an increase in welder productivity as well as the amount of compensation earned by the welders.
The approach has been successfully replicated.
